Francine plus company
Washout weekend the South, Southeast; flood risk

While parts of the South continue to deal with Francine’s remnants, it is merging into a system with fronts that will slowly move east this weekend and bring impacts as it moves.

Francine made landfall on Wednesday, but it hasn’t moved much… and it won’t move much over the weekend. Another low-pressure system with fronts merges and will slowly moves over the same area around the Southeast throughout the weekend. Heavy and constant rounds of rains are expected.

By early next week, there could be a low-pressure system forming off the coast of the Carolinas that current the National Hurricane Center gives it low chance of development. Our WeatherRadar shows this system briefly approaching eastern North Carolina, but then be pushed away by a trough pushing it east and away from the U.S.

Friday and Saturday, slight to moderate flash flood risk is slated for Alabama, Georgia, and central and western Tennessee. By Sunday, the same areas will still deal with some rain showers and there will still be a marginal chance for flash flooding. The marginal areas will focus over the coastal areas of the Carolinas on Monday because of the low pressure that will briefly approach.

How much rain is expected?

Rainfall totals through the next 5 days could reach 8 inches with some isolated spots that could receive up to 10 inches of rain. While the coasts of the Carolinas rainfall will range between 4 and 6 inches with some isolated spots receiving 8 inches.

Make sure to turn around, don’t drown. Water levels could be deeper than expected. You can track the showers in our app in the WeatherRadar and see the detailed forecast for your city for the next 90 minutes.
