Gulf Coast states
Extensive flood alerts, several more rainy days to go

It's been a rainy week from the Southern Texas coast through Louisiana and Florida as a stationary front produces lots of instability. We are also looking at the chance of a tropical low to develop on its tail end.

As we have discussed earlier in the week, the front has been parked all week in the same general region and is expected to not move at least through Saturday. By Sunday, there will be a cold front pushing it further away from the Gulf Coast, so Texas through the Florida Panhandle will get a much-needed break from all the rain.

But Florida will continue to experience higher than normal storm chances as there could be a low-pressure system attached to the new front crossing the state. This is the same low that the National Hurricane Center has highlighted with a slight chance of developing into a tropical system. Since the system is attached to a front and upper-level winds will increase, the chance for tropical formation decreases by late Friday.

Regardless, heavy rainfall is expected for Florida throughout the weekend. Before the stationary moves, from Thursday through Saturday, heavy rains will continue to affect Texas through North Florida. There are flood alerts in effect for much of the region as some areas could get as much as 10 inches of additional rain.

We will be closely monitoring the rains, floods, and increasing levels of rivers, creeks, bayous, and lakes across the region. You can track the storms in our WeatherRadar and get the detailed forecast in our app.
