Heavy snow continues for the West, several more inches in the forecast

Several more inches
Heavy snow continues for the West

The snow is not done yet for the western half of the U.S., as snow totals pile up in Oregon, Idaho, and Western Wyoming. Parts of the northern Sierra and central Rockies will see more snow on top of the impressive totals from this past weekend's blizzard.

The WeatherRadar shows an influx of Pacific moisture streaming across the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and into the Great Basin and Rockies. This means that the snow is not over yet for the winter-weary Sierra and Rockies. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories stretch from northern California into southern Idaho, northwestern Wyoming, and southwestern Montana.

In the northern Sierra, where some communities saw more than 6 feet of snow and hurricane-force wind gusts over the weekend, another foot or two of snow accumulation will be possible through Wednesday, with the highest totals above 5,000 feet. Feet of snow will also be possible in the Oregon Cascades.

With so much snow expected in the northern Sierra and Oregon Cascades, travel will be treacherous at times. Gusty winds will reduce visibility at times. Check road conditions before heading out, and make sure you have an emergency kit handy in your vehicle.

Parts of Idaho, southwestern Montana, and northwestern Wyoming, will also pick up a few inches of snow to even upwards of a foot of snow in higher elevations. Communities near Boise, Idaho, have already picked up 2 to 4 inches of snow this morning, with more on the way.

Snow totals

The snow will wind down Wednesday as an offshore storm moves south, bringing rain to Southern California, including the Los Angeles metro. Northern California will see much drier conditions for the remainder of the week, helping the snow removal process.
