Record highs
Holiday Warm-up

A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions toasty across much of the country this week. For many, it will be the warmest Christmas in years.

The TemperatureRadar is showing much warmer-than-average temperatures as we head into the remainder of the week, with record highs possible for dozens of cities.

Christmas Eve Day brings above-average highs across most of the lower-48, with only parts of New England, California and the far northern Plains seeing below-average temperatures. Highs will be in the 70s across the southern tier, with 60s across the Mid-South and into parts of the Mid-Atlantic.

Record highs may be set in more than two dozen cities on Wednesday, including Salt Lake City, Casper, Wyo., Tulsa, Okla., and Atlanta. This warm weather continues into Christmas Day.

Unseasonably warm air will mean potential record highs scattered across the central and southern Plains, the Intermountain West and into the Southeast. It could be the warmest Christmas on record in dozens of cities, as highs surge into the 60s, 70s and even 80s.

The TemperatureRadar shows the unusual warmth lingering into the weekend, with more records possible Friday and Saturday.
