Large hail possible
Severe storms target Deep South

As a low-pressure system moves into a warm, water-laden environment across the Deep South, a few severe thunderstorms could produce damaging gusts and large hail.

As afternoon highs climb into the upper 60s and 70s in the Deep South, this warm environment will support thunderstorms, with a few hail-producing supercells possible. Thunderstorms have already been moving over the Deep South today, but the focus is on northern Mississippi.

A few isolated severe storms cannot be ruled out from northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, all the way to Birmingham, Ala. Large hail, at least the size of a quarter, is the main threat, but damaging gusts greater than 57 mph cannot be ruled out.

Although they're not expected to be severe, thunderstorms will last through the overnight hours as the low-pressure system slows. We'll see chances for heavy rain and thunderstorms last all the way through the Friday morning commute along the central Gulf Coast.

The Southeast will have most of the stormy and rainy action on Friday as the low and its corresponding front slowly drapes across Florida throughout the day. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar throughout the next 24 hours to know when you'll be impacted.
