Half a foot of snow
Latest storm closes schools, businesses

The second snowstorm of the week is moving across the eastern U.S. The rainy southern flank is finally moving out to sea, other than a few northern Florida showers, but the northern flank is dropping snow from the Midwest and northern Tennessee Valey eastward into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Residents from Nashville to Indianapolis and all the way to Washington, D.C., and New York City are waking up to more snow to close out the week. Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are active.

By the time it’s all said and done, highest totals can be expected in the Ohio and Pennsylvania Snowbelt, across West Virginia, in northern Maryland, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware.

As the snow falls, road crews have been busy at work since the overnight hours. Many schools are closed and those who were planning on heading in for their morning commute are having a snow day of their own at home – sorry work-from-home peeps! Try to get out and enjoy the winter wonderland!

For those who are on the roads today, it will be very important to stay mindful of street and highway conditions.

Snowfall rates could be higher in more areas than others – just look at the WeatherRadar showing the heavier areas in dark pink.

So when does this storm head out?

It’s not a long-lasting system for most, even those the air mass moving in behind it will bring more lake effect snow. This storm is really hitting hard Friday morning, but many will notice conditions improving this afternoon as its oomph wears out.

By the afternoon commute, many will notice lighter snowfall, except for those in the snowbelt and higher elevations. It will be important to keep a close eye on the WeatherRadar and monitor local conditions if you must be out.
