Mostly quiet expect over the Great Lakes

Breakfast Brief
Mostly quiet except over the Great Lakes

Weather activity is paused across much of the U.S., while a system is expected to impact the Midwest and Great Lakes on Wednesday and move east. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

A low-pressure system is traveling over the Midwest on Wednesday morning and over the Great Lakes on Wednesday afternoon and evening. This fast-moving system is dragging a cold front and will push mostly liquid precipitation over the Ohio and Tennessee valleys. More moisture will be fed into the system from the Gulf of Mexico as the front moves east over the Southeast, but this will be on Thursday.

The storm will bring rounds of rain and a few snow showers over the northern parts of the Great Lakes.

A high-pressure system is building over the west, giving the Pacific Northwest a break from all the rain, snow, and winds experienced at the beginning of the week. The winds from the south will also allow the temperatures to warm up, with highs between the upper 50s and lower 60s across Seattle and nearby locations. Southern California will be toasty! Highs in Palm Springs will be in the low 90s.

The warm trend continues over the Southeast, with highs between 10 and 15 degrees above normal for this time of year. Much of Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida will stay in the low to mid-70s. South Florida will be in the mid to upper 70s, which is slightly below average. Enjoy the last bit of winter!

News we're covering

  • Pacific Northwest damage
  • Next cold front for the Southeast
  • More snow is coming for the Northeast.
