Tornadoes caused significant damage in Marianna and Panama City Beach, Fla., early Tuesday, with buildings demolished or displaced from their foundations.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed this was part of multiple tornado occurrences across the Florida Panhandle, including DeFuniak Springs, Panama City, and Marianna.

The NWS issued several tornado watches and warnings overnight, with social media revealing extensive storm damage by morning.

A tornado watch was active for southeastern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and into Georgia until 2 p.m. Tuesday. Local weather stations reported extreme wind gusts, including 106 mph in Blue Mountain Beach and 87 mph in Navarre.

Lower Grand Lagoon, a Panama City Beach area popular for water activities, was particularly hard hit in Florida. Remarkably, there were no reported injuries or deaths.

The severe weather that affected the Deep South on Monday and Tuesday was part of a much larger winter storm system that also brought blizzard conditions, hurricane-force wind gusts, and record-breaking rainfall to much of the country's eastern half.
