Tropical update
Nadine, Oscar form in the Atlantic

Hurricane season is not over and in less than 12 hours, there are two newly named tropical systems, one in the western Caribbean and another just north of the Dominican Republic.

Our WeatherRadar shows Nadine is about to make landfall near Belize City as a tropical storm. Although this system will dissipate quickly, its moisture will linger longer, bringing heavy rains to southern Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. This region could experience landslides and mudslides throughout the weekend.

Tropical Storm Oscar formed just north of the Dominican Republic and intensified into a hurricane in the early afternoon on Saturday. Its intensity will fluctuate between hurricane and tropical storm until mid-next week. This system will be slightly erratic through the weekend and next week.

First, it will move west, then to the southwest, and luckily, a cold front exiting the United States will pull it back to the north and away from the U.S. Nonetheless, southern Cuba can expect heavy rains. This is bad news for a country that has recently experienced a widespread power outage. It is not weather-related, but it will cause more danger.

Keep in mind that hurricane season runs through November 30. Although more fronts are pushing through the continental U.S., which helps the system curve away from the nation, you should still monitor closely if a system develops close enough between fronts.
