High flooding risk through Monday

With plenty of moisture arriving from the Gulf of Mexico and instability coming in from the North, expect heavy rounds of. Storms across parts of the southern central plains and the southeast on Sunday.

All the weather ingredients are present, especially across North Texas, extreme southern Oklahoma, and western Louisiana to have high rainfall that could lead to flash flooding through the first half of next week.

The WeatherRadar shows areas of heavy rain as shades of dark blues and purples.

First, we have a front that will move south across the Northern Plains and arrive in Texas. There is also a couple of low-pressure systems sneaking in from the west that will hold the unstable conditions through the forecast period. Secondly, there is plenty of moisture coming from the Gulf of Mexico and the remnants of the tropical disturbance that will get caught up in the flow and sit over northern Texas.

Heavy rainfall is expected to start on Sunday and become more copious and dangerous on Sunday night. There are already flash flood watches in effect from I-20 to the north.

How much rainfall?

Generally, expect two to five inches of rain through Monday, but some isolated areas could receive up to 8 inches. This amount of rain could lead to significant flash flooding and could become lethal.

Make sure to follow the storms closely and stay home when possible. Never drive over flooded roadways, even across those you frequently travel, as the water could be much deeper than expected.
