Northeast coastal storm
Heavy rain, coastal flooding possible

New England wind and rain

An autumn storm meandering up the East Coast the past several days will sideswipe New England and Cape Cod.

Gusts in the 35 to 50 mph range will kick up high waves, and the easterly flow, as seen in the WindRadar, could produce higher-than-normal tides and local coastal flooding, especially on Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and eastern-facing shores of Massachusetts.

Our Marine weather section offers the times of the high and low tides and expected wave highs along the coast.

This is the same system that produced heavy rain and flooding across the eastern Carolinas over the past several days. Here is a storm summary with a video showing flood rescues.

Luckily, the system is weaker, and most of the energy will remain offshore. The WeatherRadar shows the storm bringing rain into Boston and much of southeastern New England. However, about an inch of rain will make for some wet roads, so slow down.

Autumn is the start of the New England storm season when coastal systems bring the risk of high winds, coastal flooding and heavy rain to the Northeast. Be sure to check the Weather & Radar for the latest forecasts.
