Pacific Northwest
Heat not felt in 80+ years

High temperatures for Thursday, August 6, in the Pacific Northwest.

Records as old as 81 and even 124 years could fall this first week of August in the Pacific Northwest as temperatures rise to the 90s & triple digits due to a new heatwave.

Did you know?

The Seattle Metro area averages out with high temperatures in the 70s in the summertime. Due to this, around 50 percent of homes in the Seattle/Puget Sound region own air condtoning systems, meaning heatwaves make things much more uncomfortable and can sometimes be deadly.

A new heatwave is building for the West, with record-breaking temperatures in the 90s and triple digits as far north as Seattle. While the record-breaking heat is forecast for many west of the Rockies this week, the Pacific Northwest is an area of concern due to the lack of air conditioning. The Pacific Northwest does get hot, and while summer highs in the 80s and 90s occur, they don't happen often enough to justify a new home renovation for many.

The TemperatureRadar shows deep red to pink hues across the Pacific Northwest the rest of the workweek as heat builds. Highs in the upper 80s, 90s and triple digits are in the forecast along Interstate 5 all the way to the Canadian border.

August heat not felt since the early 1900s to the 1940s could help records tie or break before relief moves in this weekend.
