Italy floods continue
Pedestrian swept into rushing waters

Extreme rainfall over Matera, Italy swept a pedestrian off their feet as flood waters rushed violently down a city street.

On June 2nd, the tourist hotspot of Matera in Southern Italy was hit hard by showers and thunderstorms, receiving nearly 3.2 inches of rain in just 40 minutes. The storms triggered flash flooding, wreaking havoc across the city.

Italy is currently reeling from a series of catastrophic floods caused by heavy rainfall, leading to severe damage and disruption across the country. The relentless downpours have triggered overflowing rivers, flash floods, and landslides, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

The regions most affected by the floods include Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont, and Emilia-Romagna. Picturesque towns and cities, once known for their beauty and charm, recently resembled chaos and disrepair. Historic landmarks, infrastructure, homes, and businesses have been submerged, leaving residents devastated and needing immediate assistance.

Today, more heavy rain is expected across the central and southern portions of the nation as a low-pressure system tracks east to northeast across the Mediterranean. To keep up with the latest, make sure to follow the WeatheRadar.
