Perseids this weekend
The best meteor shower of the year

The best meteor shower of the year peaks Sunday night into Monday morning. Here's what to know about the Perseids.

The Perseids peak late Sunday into early Monday (Aug. 11-12), and under clear dark skies, you can expect to see 50-75 meteors per hour! The Perseids are associated with the Swift-Tuttle comet and get their name due to their arrival from the Perseus constellation.

The good news is that the moon, which is about 50% full at the time of the shower, will set around midnight. Early morning stargazers will have the best view.
