Winter storm hits Montana
Like a "snow globe"

A winter storm is bringing significant snowfall and high winds to the northern Rockies, impacting areas in Montana and northern Wyoming from Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Snow showers began on Nov. 5 in central Montana, with some mountain regions expecting nearly two feet of snow. User @cassieglows posted footage of snowfall in Fairfield, Mont., on X, describing the scene as living in a "snow globe."

The WeatherRadar shows a winter storm bringing widespread precipitation and winter storm conditions to portions of the Rockies on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

The winter storm warning remains in effect through Wednesday, with snow accumulations ranging from two to seven inches in lower elevations and wind gusts up to 60 mph, particularly in mountainous areas.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Tuesday afternoon through the evening, primarily affecting northerly upslope regions. Commuters should prepare for slick road conditions Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with blowing snow reducing visibility. Drivers in backcountry areas may face hazardous conditions, and isolated power outages are possible.

But it’s not just the northern Rockies—Colorado and other parts of the Central U.S. are experiencing winter weather as well. The image above shows Frisco, Colo., after a winter storm hit the state late last weekend. Another system is expected this Tuesday, with over a foot of snow possible in higher elevations.
