Seasonable temperatures return

After the Arctic blast
Temperatures rebound for the weekend

It's been a grueling, cold week for most residents east of the Rockies. We are finally seeing a temperature swing on the TemperatureRadar.

If your furnace is just now catching a break, you're not alone. Many endured sub-zero temperatures with even colder wind chills this last week. Cities like Pittsburgh saw their coldest temperature in 10 years! Still on Friday, Florida spots like Miami and Lakeland could tie record-cold high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s.

Did you know?

Once temperatures fall below 50 degrees in Florida, iguanas start freezing and falling out of trees. These are cold-blooded animals and LOVE the Florida heat. However, when winter settles in, they struggle to keep warm. We could see reports of this Saturday morning before the warmer temperatures return!

Some places in the South were colder than cities to the north! Snow made it all the way to the Gulf Coast - yes, 8 inches piled up in New Orleans. Any remaining snow has been melting quickly in the last few days and any snow that is still around will have trouble staying, especially over the weekend when temperatures climb into the 50s and 60s.

As low-pressure treks across the South this weekend, south and southwesterly flow will allow the mercury to rise to near 40 in Philadelphia and New York City. This beats the recent teens and low 20s!

Does the warmer weather last? It's still January and the middle of winter, so colder days are a given. Be sure to keep a close eye on the TemperatureRadar to know when you'll see another chilly dip.
