Several fronts move through the west; rain, snow, cooler temps

A new cold front is moving through the Pacific Northwest. Another impulse moves through, and these get stuck just west of the Rockies, brewing bigger. The cooler weather will move to the Four Corners, too!

The Pacific Northwest wakes up with a few scattered showers this morning as a cold front moves through. As our WeatherRadar shows, there will be an uptick in showers during the next two days, with snow even falling on the highest peaks of the mountains. Seattle's wettest day will be Wednesday, with rain taking over most of the day.

The best chance of precipitation in about a month is coming through!

The cold front arrives in the Great Basin and surrounding areas on Thursday. But Wednesday will be a transitional day, with dry winds picking up and toasty temperatures enhancing the regional fire weather risk. Our WindRadar shows that gusts could exceed 40 mph. Rain and snow will start falling early Thursday across the northern portion of the Rockies. Mountains in Montana could receive 12 inches of snow. Much of Colorado will deal with precipitation starting late Thursday through Friday.

This cold front will leave a much cooler trend on Thursday and Friday behind from the Pacific Northwest through the western part of the Rockies. Highs will struggle to reach the 40s on Friday for many parts of Wyoming and further west, while cities like Portland will stay with highs in the 50s and still deal with some rain.

The cold front will also increase rain chances as far south as Phoenix, Arizona, where the rain will be welcomed. The northern three-quarters of Arizona will deal with rain; the highest peaks could get snow. Heavier downpours will fall between Thursday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be significantly cooler just in time for the weekend.
