Holiday weekend threat
Severe storm threats march across U.S.

Dangerous severe storms will target the Plains, Midwest, and South into the holiday weekend. Today's risk includes a large swath of the Plains.

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the severe weather threat does not let up, which is something to consider if you are traveling or have outdoor plans. Yesterday severe storms rattled Texas, and the city of Temple was severely damaged by a tornado. Today's severe weather threat extends across much of the Plains and includes areas hard-hit by yesterday's storms.

Thursday's severe risk

You will want to keep an eye on the WeatherRadar as strong storms erupt across the Great Plains this afternoon and evening. An enhanced risk, a level 3 out of 5 of severe storms, extends across eastern Nebraska and northern Kansas. A slight risk, a level 2 out of 5 of severe storms, extends from North Dakota all the way down to central Texas.

Damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes are possible in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, Oklahoma City, Wichita, Kan., and Omaha and Lincoln, Neb. Stay weather aware and turn on your Weather & Radar app alerts.

More severe weather is expected into the weekend. Strong storms with gusty winds and hail are possible on Friday across the mid-Mississippi and lower Ohio Valleys. Saturday and Sunday look very active, with enhanced risks already over the central Plains and Ozarks and mid-Mississippi and Tennessee valleys respectively.

The bottom line is that you need to pay attention to the weather this weekend, especially if you are traveling or have outdoor plans in areas highlighted by a severe risk. Check in with Weather & Radar frequently for the latest information.
