Severe threat for the Midwest

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in parts of the Midwest this afternoon and continue into tonight, with the potential for large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Additionally, a few severe storms capable of producing large-to-very-large hail may develop across parts of the central and southern Plains later today. Cities at risk of severe weather include Kansas City, Mo., Oklahoma City, Springfield, Ill., and Fort Wayne, Ind.

More severe storms are possible through midweek. Tomorrow, the risk extends from northeast Texas into western Tennessee, with the greatest risk focused over Arkansas. Some storms could bring large hail, damaging wind gusts, and possibly a couple of tornadoes.

Wednesday's threat focuses on parts of Texas, the Lower Mississippi, and the Tennessee Valleys. Threats include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the potential for a couple of tornadoes.
