Plains to Atlantic snow
New winter storm forming

A developing winter storm will bring significant winter impacts from the Southern Plains to the southern Mid-Atlantic by Saturday.

The storm, as seen on the WeatherRadar, originates in Northern Mexico and will advance to the Gulf Coast by Friday and move northeast to the southern Mid-Atlantic Coast by Saturday.

Winter storm's path across the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain will affect large areas. Snowfall of 6 to 8 inches is expected from southeast Oklahoma to western North Carolina, with at least 4 inches likely across southeastern Oklahoma and the Mid-South.

Ice accumulation of a tenth to a quarter inch is forecast from northeastern Texas through southern Arkansas, extending into parts of the Southeast, including Atlanta and the Carolinas.

Widespread moderate winter weather impacts include treacherous travel, scattered power outages, and downed branches. Areas from the Red River Valley through the Southern Appalachians will see significant disruptions, with the Tennessee Valley expected to receive up to 6 inches of snow on Friday.

Weather & Radar meteorologists will track this latest winter storm and offer a live video update at 11 a.m. CT Thursday. Be sure to have Winter Weather Alerts turned on too.
