Snow, rain & ice
Another winter storm zips east

As one storm exits, another is making its way across the central U.S. bringing snow, ice, rain and severe weather threats.

Almost 100K people are without power in southern Virginia, right where freezing rain and sleet are showing up on the WeatherRadar Wednesday morning. Similarly, intense ice impacts were found in northwest Arkansas late Monday into very early Tuesday, thanks to the tail end of this first storm system. As the next storm gets going, more icing continues on Wednesday morning in the Ozarks, among heavy snow and thunderstorms on the northern and southern flanks, respectively.

This second storm is impacting millions and will bring up to 5 inches of snow across the Plains and Midwest with up to 8 inches in the Great Lakes, especially eastern Michigan. As for the rainy side, severe thunderstorms - with as much as an enhanced risk - will bring very gusty winds, large hail and the chance for tornadoes.

The severe weather situation will especially be prevalent in the Deep South, including Alexandria and New Orleans, La., northeastward to Atlanta, with a concentration between Franklinton, La., to just west of Columbus, Ga. The WeatherRadar shows these storms ramping up right before the afternoon commute and lasting late into the overnight, posing a nocturnal storm threat.

This overall winter storm will continue moving to the northeast, bringing more rain, snow and ice all the way through the Northeast neighborhoods into Thursday. It will depend on the temperature set-up to know what kind of precipitation you'll receive. Learn more about this here and keep a close eye on the WeatherRadar as schools and commutes will be impacted.
