SoCal rattled
Magnitude 4.7 earthquake in Malibu

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake just north of Malibu rattled Southern California on Thursday at 7:28 a.m. PT.

Some residents of Southern California were shaken awake as an earthquake with its epicenter just north of Malibu impacted the region. The quake was originally registered as 5.1 in magnitude but has been downgraded to 4.7.

The earthquake was close to the Malibu fault and struck just before 7:30 a.m. local time. The earthquake had a depth of nearly 6 miles and a 2.8 magnitude aftershock hit just a few minutes later.

The shaking was felt up to 60 miles away across Southern California. Shaking was felt as far away as Riverside and Newport Beach. There have been no reports of injuries or death.
