Storms moving along: How much will temps change

Storms moving along
How much will temps change

If you are in the Southeast and are waiting for a drastic cool down after this cold front, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer for it to happen.

There are two cold fronts crossing the East back-to-back on Thursday and Friday. Any other time we would think that a cold snap would be felt across the Southeast, but as there will be a high-pressure system building behind it, there will also be another low-pressure system entering the Central Plains on Saturday morning, weakening the high-pressure system.

Possibly record warm lows

The center of the high-pressure system will be centered across the Ohio River Valley, so the colder temps will be felt mainly across the Northeast, but this will be on Saturday. Before then, it will be a warm Friday morning, with some warm morning temperatures that could tie or break records. For example, Washington, D.C.’s low temperature on Friday is forecast to be 39 degrees, this would be the previous record warm minimum temperature set in 1995. The cold front will be pushing through on Friday, so don’t let your guard down, the wind will pick up and temperatures will be dropping during the afternoon.

A cold West

The coldest temperatures will continue to be focused mainly over the West to finish the week and into the weekend. But sub-freezing temperatures will be present from the northern fringes of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia to the north on Saturday morning. Atlanta’s low on Saturday morning will be around 35 degrees. Miami will once again bounce back to the low 60s and the humidity will try to make a comeback this weekend as the front loses its energy and stalls just over the region.

For the Rockies, lows on Saturday will be between 14 and 18 degrees. Highs on Sunday will remain below 32 degrees.

As a storm moves east on Saturday, expect temperatures to be slightly cooler on Sunday across the East, but still, no major cooldown is expected. No records, warm or cold, are expected to be broken or be near to being broken this weekend.
