Surge, outages, flooding
Isaias landfall dangers

Isaias approaching Gulf Coast
Major Hurricane Isaias is approaching the central Gulf Coast.

Major Hurricane Isaias will make landfall along the central Gulf Coast later tonight or early Saturday. Conditions will deteriorate rapidly along the Gulf Coast, with millions of others impacted as it and its remnants move ashore this weekend.

The biggest immediate dangers today are winds rapidly increasing along the coast causing power outages and making evacuations and travel dangerous and a growing storm surge along the coast. Water levels could increase as much as 9 feet, flooding beaches and roadways, cutting off coastal communities from inland. The WindRadar can be used to track Isaias as it roars ashore.

The fiercest weather will arrive tonight as the hurricane roars ashore. Widespread power outages and extensive coastal damage is likely. It will weaken as it moves inland but it will still be a heavy rainmaker throughout the South and Southeast Saturday before soaking the East Coast Sunday.

Flash flooding will be the biggest dangers this weekend as Isaias rolls up the coast. The WeatherRadar can be used to track the system as it moves northward up the East Coast.
