Record-breaking heat
TemperatureRadar heating up in the East

Hot temperatures are expected to build across the East Coast this afternoon, with record and near-record highs in the forecast for many cities.

Sweltering temperatures are in the forecast extending from the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today and tomorrow. With the TemperatureRadar showing highs reaching the 90s and 100s, and high humidity in place, this heat can be dangerous.

Today, daily high temperature records will be at risk in Washington, D.C., Richmond, Va., Charlotte, N.C., and Charleston, S.C., as temperatures soar into the upper 90s and low 100s. It feels like temperatures will be up to 105, or even more at times, making for a sweltering afternoon along the Eastern Seaboard.

The heat will persist into Tuesday but a front will bring some relief to the East by Wednesday. In the meantime, stay cool and hydrated and avoid being outdoors at the hottest times of the day. Remember, you can always use our hourly forecast to determine when it's too hot to be outside.
