Watch for fireballs
Northern Taurids peak Saturday night

Meteor shower

A minor meteor shower will peak this weekend. While the Northern Taurids aren't known for producing a lot of meteors, they can produce brilliant fireballs.

The Northern Taurids peak Saturday night into Sunday morning and sky watchers may be in for a treat. While this meteor shower typically only produces around five meteors per hour, it is known for producing bright fireballs.

For those who are able to spend some time stargazing, the skies will be dark. The moon will be in it's waning crescent phase over the weekend, and with the new moon on Monday, you will have an excellent view of shooting stars.

If you plan to watch, the best viewing will be between midnight and dawn. Also, head to a dark spot away from city lights and give your eyes time to adjust. It can take up to half an hour for your eyes to get used to the night sky. Also, don't forget to check local weather conditions on the WeatherRadar.

If you aren't able to watch the Northern Taurids, another meteor shower is around the corner. The annual Leonid meteor shower will reach its peak Friday, Nov. 17 into the morning of Saturday, Nov. 18. The Leonids will peak with up to 15 meteors per hour.
