Fire danger grows
Rockies, N. Plains high wind threat

Hold onto your hat and steering wheel. Wind gusts in excess of 35 mph sweep across the northern Rockies and high Plains today and Thursday.

The WindRadar shows a bunch of orange and red hues across Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and western Nebraska— outlining the areas where wind gusts are exceeding 35 mph today. A few spots of southern Wyoming are showing 55 mph gusts, including Cheyenne.

The high westerly winds, descending the Rockies' eastern slopes, will cause the temperatures —as seen on our TemperatureRadar —to skyrocket into the 60s and low 70s while also causing the humidity to drop.

This will create high fire dangers throughout the western high Plains along the I-25 corridor from Colorado Springs northward into the Denver metropolitan area and up into Fort Collins and southeastern Wyoming.
