Tropical development?
Southeast to the Mid-Atlantic coast

Privacy policy

Heavy rains and dangerous marine conditions are slated for the Southeast coast on Sunday and to start the week as a low pressure system spins just offshore and tries to organize.

This is the same area we were discussed last week, but now it has a low-pressure system that has formed. This low-pressure is currently attached to a front traveling over Florida. If this low breaks free from the front and meanders around over water during the next couple of days, storms could become better organized giving it a chance of becoming a tropical system.

Forecast rainfall through Thursday Sept. 19, 2024.

Regardless if it develops or not, the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic must prepare for heavy rounds of rains, storms and dangerous marine conditions. The dangerous seas are already affecting the Southeast throughthe Mid-Atlantic coast. There are powerful rip currents in place as well as high seas and surf.

How much rain?

Since the low could reorganize the rainfall could vary. The model above shows that the heaviest rainfall will fall over North Carolina through the Mid-Atlantic. Keep in mind that if the low pressure system shifts a bti more south, then the heaviest rainfall, or that deep blue swath coudl be shifted a bit more south too, affecting North and South Carolina through the middle of the week.

The biggest worry are flash floods that could bring dangerous conditions in the roads and elevate river, creek and lake levels. Never try to drive over flooded roads, water could be deeper than expected. Swimmers and boaters are advised to stay out of the water as there will be strong winds making the seas very rough. We will keep bringing you updates in our app. You can follow the storm in our WeatherRadar.
