Tropical downpours soak the Gulf Coast

Widespread flood risk
Tropical downpours soak the Gulf Coast

Tropical moisture interacting with a front will bring a multi-day flood threat to the Gulf Coast this week.

A complex weather situation is unfolding along the Gulf Coast this week. A stationary front will interact with deep Gulf moisture to produce numerous rounds of showers and storms from Texas to the Southeast.

Additionally, an upper-level circulation will track from northeastern Mexico into the Gulf by mid-week, bringing possible tropical development into the equation. Currently, there is a medium chance of development.

Regardless of whether Tropical Storm Arthur forms, we will see widespread rain totals of 5-7 inches across Texas and Alabama through the end of the week.

Cities such as Houston, Corpus Christi, and Beaumont, Texas, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lake Charles, La., Jackson, Miss., and Mobile, Ala., should be on alert for heavy rain and flash flooding this week.
