Tropical update
Invest 91L entering southern Caribbean

Two tropical waves on the move over the Atlantic. One is about to enter the southern Caribbean.

We still have less than two months left of hurricane season. This week we're monitoring two tropical waves, one in the open Atlantic and another one is closely approaching the Caribbean.

The first tropical wave that has the biggest chance to receive a name is located a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde islands. This system has a very short chance to become the next tropical system this Tuesday or Wednesday, as the wind shear will increase starting Wednesday evening and Thursday limiting the chances for this system to receive a name. Regardless of whether this wave receives a name or not, this system will be traveling northward and it's not expected to affect land as it will stay over the open waters of the Atlantic.

Invest 91L near the Caribbean

The next tropical wave has been labeled Invest 91L. The latest satellite imagery in our WeatherRadar shows that this tropical wave, which is located a few 100 miles east of the southern portion of the Windward Islands, is becoming better organized. The wave will continue to travel westward at around 15 mph and it should be over the Caribbean by Wednesday morning.

It'll take a few days for the system to gain a bit of strength. The National Hurricane Center states that a tropical depression or a tropical storm could form by the end of this week once the system is over the western Caribbean. Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to fly the system on Tuesday afternoon. We will keep you updated.

As the system will continue to travel over the southern Caribbean, northern Venezuela and the ABC Islands should monitor this system closely as heavy rains will affect these areas as Invest 91L moves west during the work week. Central America should also keep a close eye on the evolution of this system too.
