Tropical update
Quiet Atlantic Basin, for now

It’s panning out to be another quiet week in the tropical Atlantic. Let’s discuss.

Increased tropical rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect most of the larger Caribbean islands as deep moisture channels over the central and western Caribbean. But still no dice! This week there won’t be that extra oomph needed for tropical development to come from this deep moisture as we continue to be under weak favorable conditions with the suppressing phase of the Madden-Julian Oscillation in place.

What we could start noticing by late in the week or into the weekend are more tropical waves leaving Africa, perhaps a more robust one. This hints at the chance of low development later this month. But remember these far-away waves take their sweet time traveling west, so there is plenty of time to monitor them.
