Tropical update
TS Danielle forms & watching 2 waves

Danielle formed over the northern Atlantic, we continue to monitor another 2 disturbances.

August ended with no named tropical systems in the Atlantic for that month. This was the first time this happened in this century. The last time there was no named system in August was in 1997, under a strong El Niño. On September 1, the National Hurricane Center officially named Tropical Storm Danielle and there are other 2 waves we are monitoring.

Tropical Depression Five formed early September 1 and by 11 a.m. The National Hurricane Center officially named it Danielle. Tropical Storm Danielly is over the Central subtropical Atlantic. It has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and tropical storm-force winds extend 35 miles outward.

This system is barely moving, and it is expected to stay in place, away from any body of land, through the weekend. In this position, it could become a hurricane by Saturday morning, as conditions such as warm waters and low wind shear are in the place. The tropical system will continue to be parked without affecting the land.

Finally, on Monday this system could gain forward speed and move to the north-northeast, still staying away from land.

A tropical disturbance (Invest-91L) we have been monitoring this week continues to be a couple of hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles. It does not look too impressive on satellite, nonetheless, hurricane hunters have been flying through the disturbance but have yet to find a well-defined center of circulation. This system is fighting the blob of dry air and strong wind shear located near Puerto Rico, which will give it a run for its money and really hold back its development. Although the thunderstorms can become better organized, and the system could acquire a tropical depression label it will likely stay as such through the weekend. It is moving to the west-northwest, passing north of the Windward Islands, passing safely, away from the Caribbean Islands.

Hurricane preparedness: How does a hurricane form & its risks

Far, far away …

The last tropical wave is located near Cabo Verde Islands. It continues to be very disorganized and any development that occurs would have to be during the end of this workweek or the beginning of the weekend. Anything beyond will likely not happen because the system will move over cooler water and more hostile conditions. Regardless, this system is expected to remain over water during its possible short life as a tropical system.
