Severe storms produce giant hail, damaging winds, and at least 8 tornadoes on Tuesday which affected nearly 40 million people.

There were two clusters, one over the Midwest and another one from Texas through Louisiana, combined produced 188 preliminary hail reports, 83 wind reports, and 8 tornado reports. Overall, most of the hail reports came from the Midwest, while the damaging winds were mostly reported across eastern Texas through northern Louisiana.

There were several damage reports from large hail and the damaging winds, including two injured as a house slid off its foundation, roofs were blown in Mower County, Minnesota. Although at least 8 tornadoes, a couple seemed violent, developed, there have not been reports of major damage or injuries.

The storms started shortly after 5 p.m. CT across Central and North Texas. The first tornado report came from Coryell County in Texas, about 8 miles south of Gatesville. Giant hail fell from the sky causing damage and injuring at least 23 people, several people had to be taken to the hospital.

The severe weather action started in central Kansas, eastern Nebraska shortly after 7 p.m. Central Time with tornadoes over western Iowa, that moved northeast over Mason City. National Weather officials are scheduled to survey the tornado paths and damage reported in Pocahontas and Humboldt counties. We will update this story as soon as more details are released.
