Active pattern on the way
Unsettled weather for the West Coast

An active pattern will bring rounds of rain and mountain snow to the West Coast through the remainder of the week, just in time for the New Year.

It will be a busy rest of the week for the West Coast as two offshore low pressure systems move in through the remainder of this week. The WeatherRadar shows the first system pushing a wave of moisture onshore Wednesday, generating areas of moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds.

Areas stretching from northern California to Washington will see rain with this first system, but snow will fall across the highest peaks. Upslope areas can expect one to two inches of rainfall from today’s system, with the valleys picking up around one inch of rain. It will be a soggy ride home in cities like Seattle, Portland, Ore., and San Francisco.

You will also want to keep an eye on the WindRadar in northern California and southern Oregon, especially in the higher elevations. High wind warnings and wind advisories are in place in this region for sustained winds up to 40 mph and gusts up to 65 mph.

A second system moving in from the Pacific will bring moderate rainfall and high-elevation snow to the Pacific Northwest and northern California on Friday and Saturday. This system will also be accompanied by mild temperatures, limiting snowfall to the highest elevations. Rain will also move into central and southern California at the end of this week.

With rain on the way to close out 2023, it's important to check in with Weather & Radar's expert meteorologists for the latest forecast.
