Tornadoes can happen at any time of year in the U.S., even in December. Intense storms rolled across Texas and Louisiana on Thursday, with at least eight tornadoes reported. Drone video shows significant damage to homes in the Sieper, La., community.

While the WeatherRadar shows the threat of a few storms today along the northern Gulf Coast, in cities like Mobile, Ala., and New Orleans, a more significant threat builds for Saturday. Severe storms are expected to erupt from Texas to Georgia.

Damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes (some strong) are possible Saturday into Saturday night. The greatest risk of severe weather extends across eastern Louisiana into central Mississippi and includes cities like Monroe and Alexandria, La., as well as Jackson and Hattiesburg, Miss. Other cities at risk include Lufkin, Texas, Birmingham and Mobile, Ala., Nashville, Tenn., and Atlanta.
