Tropical wave
Monitoring the Gulf of Mexico this week

Remember that tropical traveling over the Caribbean that we discussed on Monday? Well, it is now located over the western Caribbean and is being officially monitored by the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical wave to move over to the Gulf of Mexico this week.

It has a chance of becoming a named system within the next 5 days, so we have plenty of time to watch it. The tropical wave will move over parts of Central America, which will hinder formation in the short term. Once over the southern Gulf of Mexico, or Bay of Campeche, conditions will likely become more favorable for this system to develop.

The eastern portion of Mexico to the Texas Coast should monitor this system closely as even if it doesn’t get officially named (just like invest 98 this past weekend) it can potentially bring heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The rest of the Atlantic looks quiet. A mix of very distant, underdeveloped tropical waves, Saharan dust, and strong wind shear is keeping activity down. Remember this is bound to change in the coming weeks as we move into September. Please make sure to review your hurricane plans.
