Weekend: timing, risks
Severe storms from Texas to Mississippi

Saturday severe weather threat.

As we mentioned earlier this week, Southeast Texas has seen big swings in temperatures and weather, and this weekend will not be left out. Strong to severe storms are possible on Saturday.

The severe weather threat comes from a strong cold front that will be pushing east and will crash with the warm and humid air coming in from the Gulf of Mexico.

The biggest threat for severe storms will be focused from Corpus Christi to Galveston, through Houston, College Station, and extending east toward Beaumont. Storms outside from Southeast Texas, but extending over the Mississippi River Basin are still possible but they are not forecast to become severe.

There is a chance for brief tornadoes across Southeast Texas as storms develop from Saturday afternoon into the evening. These storms will also have the chance to develop damaging winds as they move to the east-southeast. Some storms may have some heavier downpours, or some areas could be under “training storms,” meaning storms passing over the same areas over and over, which may develop minor flooding.

The threat for severe weather moves east on Sunday morning through early afternoon. Severe storms will affect Louisiana and Southern Mississippi on Sunday with the chance of damaging winds and brief tornadoes. Once the cold air moves over, the threat of severe weather diminishes.

Make sure to have at least 3 ways of receiving weather alerts and stay weather aware all day into the evening.
