Dust and smoke
What's causing hazy skies?

Hazy skies have been spotted from the Upper Midwest to Florida this week, and there are two possible culprits. Smoke from Canadian wildfires and Saharan dust are both causing issues, and you'll want to check your air quality before heading out.

Hazy skies have been impacting parts of the U.S. this week stretching from the Midwest to the Southeast. If you are seeing hazy conditions, there are two possible culprits.

Raging wildfires in Canada have sent smoke all the way down to the Southeast this week, and have created poor air quality conditions in the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast.

Florida will be impacted by Saharan dust through the end of the week and into the weekend. Saharan dust isn't uncommon this time of year along the Gulf Coast, and poses little threat. It can help tamp down tropical activity and rainfall, as well as produce vibrant sunrises and sunsets.

Our air quality tool shows moderate air quality impacts into the weekend, so those in sensitive groups may want to take precautions.
