Two meteor showers blaze overhead this month, with two differing Moon phases to help or hinder the views.

First up, on the evening of October 7th, the Draconids are the first shower to peak. Although they produce only around 10 shooting stars an hour, the waning crescent moon will help create darker skies, making them easier to see.

Unlike most displays, the best time to spot these meteors is in the early evening rather than the early morning. The new moon arrives on the 10th, which is also the last day to spot a Draconid.

It's a break then until the end of the month, when the Orionids reach their peak on the 21st, active from the 2nd. The peak arrives days before a full moon, meaning some fainter meteors will be masked by moonlight.

Waiting later into the evening as the moon sets in an area free from light pollution will offer the best chance to spot them. If not, the display is active until November 7th.

No matter the event, there's no use heading out if the skies are covered. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar before planning a night under the stars.
