Coastal, marine hazards
Heavy rain brings flooding concerns to South Florida

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are affecting South Florida, raising flood concerns in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

It's been a thundery Sunday across much of South Florida. Some areas could receive 2 to 4 inches of rain, with isolated locations seeing up to 7 inches. The intense rainfall could flood streets, create dangerous driving conditions, and disrupt daily activities. These rains will likely extend through the start of the week.

Pay attention to warnings and watches that are issued for your area when heavy rain is in the forecast.
Pay attention to the alerts issued for your area when heavy rain is forecast. Flooding and flash flooding are always possible.

Coastal communities may also experience strong winds, rough surf, and dangerous rip currents. Along the Atlantic coastline, strong winds and rough surf are creating additional hazards. Coastal areas of Broward and Palm Beach counties are experiencing dangerous surf conditions, with breaking waves potentially reaching 5 to 8 feet.

Residents are urged to stay alert, avoid flooded roads, and monitor local weather alerts. Rainy conditions are expected to continue into Monday before gradually improving.
