Daily briefing
Autumn storms & a cooldown for some

October has officially begun, and Autumn is making its appearance with rain, mountain snow and cooler temperatures, just not for all. This, along with our tropical update, is available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

The WeatherRadar shows wet weather in the West, particularly in the Pacific Northwest down to central California and into the northern Rockies today. Rain gear will be needed in places from San Francisco to Seattle, Wash., and eastward to Boise, Idaho and Missoula, Mont.

Mountain snow is in store for the highest elevations of the Cascades and northern Rockies - yes, ski season is just about here! We have a ski information section when resorts begin to open!

Thursday will have wet weather brewing in the West and Southeast as rain, thunderstorms and even mountain snow are possible.

Coastal showers and thunderstorms are in today's forecast along the Southeast coast and through Florida. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar if you plan to be outdoors today.

An isolated thunderstorm or two could pop up in the Upper Midwest starting this morning, with the WeatherRadar showing chances throughout the rest of the day. Grab the umbrella for the commutes!

Many along the West and East coasts will have autumn temperatures today. Highs will only make it into the 60s and 70s from Maine to Atlanta, Ga., with the same feel from Seattle to San Francisco. The summery heat remains across the Southwest through the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee valleys. Hot 80s and 90s will keep the A.C. running, and some may reach record highs in both North Dakota and Texas.

Tropical Update

Humberto is no moe, but Imelda continues moving out to sea. Two areas of interest have appeared, but have low chances of development over the next week. One is from thunderstorm activity off the South Florida coastline. The other is out in the Atlantic, where a favorable environment for activity awaits tropical waves coming off northwestern Africa.
