Daily briefing
A few western storms

The quiet September work week continues across most of the U.S., with the West remaining the exception. Thunderstorms and rain showers remain the norm. This, and our tropical update, are available at 5 a.m. ET in our daily briefing.

Changing things up today with a look at the West first. Several waves of thunderstorms and rain showers will be possible across the Rockies, Mountain West and the Northwest today. These won't be all-day washouts, but they could still produce a few headaches for outdoor plans. Check the WeatherRadar often for the latest.

Afternoon storms will be possible across parts of the West today.

The Southwest and California will miss out on the rain with plenty of sunshine, sending temperatures into the 80s and 90s. Phoenix and the Southwest will be in the triple digits.

East of the Rockies, summer remains locked into place across the high Plains, Texas and throughout the South and Southeast. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 90s.

The East and the Northeast will have a few more clouds than recent days, with a few showers possible in the Ohio Valley and the Carolinas. Thunderstorms will sweep across parts of Florida this afternoon.

Tropical Update

The tropics are quiet this week. A tropical wave is forecast to emerge off west Africa over the next couple of days with development possible by early next week.
