Daily briefing
Stormy midweek for East

Hot and stormy remains today's headlines throughout the South, Southeast and East Coast today. The West stays hot too. All of this and today's tropical outlook is included in the daily briefing published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

The WeatherRadar will be an important tool today throughout the South, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. Afternoon thunderstorms will be possible, so be sure to check it often to see if outdoor plans will need to be changed. Keep alerts active to get the latest storm details.

Storm PM across the South, Southeast and East.Big storms are possible throughout the afternoon across the South, Southeast and East.

Feeding the storms will be a hot and humid airmass. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 80s and low 90s, with the high humidity making it feeling even hotter.

A sun-filled Wednesday will be on tap across the Plains and most of the West. The exception will the Northwest, where showers will arrive later today as a weak Pacific system moves ashore.

The sun will be accompanied by hot temperatures. The TemperatureRadar shows highs in the 90s and even a few triple-digit highs reaching into the northern Rockies and northern Plains, with 110+ readings possible across the Southwest. The only cool spots will be along the immediate Pacific Coast and in the Northwest.

Tropical Update

The Atlantic Basin remains quiet as we approach mid-July. In the Eastern Pacific, which has been more active than the Atlantic to start out the hurricane season, could see possible development over the eastern Pacific well west of Mexico. This threat will be slow to develop and will remain far from land.
