Feeling like summer
Record heat moves east

Record highs will tumble across much of the East this week as a ridge of high pressure brings summer-like highs from the Southeast to the Northeast.

The TemperatureRadar shows record-breaking heat across the mid-Atlantic and Southeast this week, with summerlike temperatures climbing into the 80s—and even reaching the 90s in cities like Washington and Atlanta by midweek.

The culprit will be high pressure. The WeatherRadar shows a ridge sticking around much of the week, keeping the East warmer-than-average. This ridge will also keep severe weather contained to the Plains and Midwest.

So how hot will it get? Highs will run as much as 20 to 30 degrees above average for mid-April through at least late-week, and dozens of records will be at risk. It will be especially warm across portions of the Mid-Atlantic. Record highs will be possible in cities such as Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Charlotte, N.C., and Nashville, Tenn., this week.
