A clipper system that is impacting parts of the Midwest Tuesday will continue to dip south and east, bringing inclement weather to the Mid-Atlantic by Wednesday.

A speedy Alberta Clipper will track across the Midwest and Ohio Valley today, bringing light snow and rain to the region. Tuesday morning's commute has been messy in cities such as Chicago, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Columbus, Ohio. Due to the fast movement of this system, snow totals in this region are expected to be an inch or less.

While the WeatherRadar shows mostly light snow and rain from this system, heavier snow will fall Tuesday night into Wednesday morning over the mountains of West Virginia, western Maryland, western Virginia, and south-central and southwestern Pennsylvania. Winter Weather advisories are in place along parts of the Appalachians where up to 3 inches of snow may fall.

East of the Appalachians, snowflakes may mix with rain at times across Virginia, Maryland, southern Pennsylvania, and Delaware on Wednesday. However, roads are expected to stay wet instead of icy due to warmer temperatures. Light snow showers will also be possible across New England and light lake effect snow may develop downwind of the Great Lakes through midweek.
