Arctic blast
-30°F feels like temperatures

A powerful cold front is sweeping across the Northern Plains and Great Lakes this week, bringing a significant drop in temperatures and hazardous winter conditions.

Beginning Wednesday and lasting through Friday, much of the central and eastern United States will face a return to bitterly cold weather, with feels like temperatures plummeting to dangerously low levels in some areas.

In the Northern Plains, wind chills are expected to fall below 0°F, with some locations experiencing lows as extreme as -30°F. These brutal conditions will pose significant risks to anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods.

Meanwhile, as this frigid air moves over the still-warm waters of the Great Lakes, it will trigger intense lake-effect snowstorms. Snowfall rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour in the heaviest bands, producing accumulations exceeding 8 inches in several areas. These conditions are likely to create dangerous travel situations, with reduced visibility and rapidly accumulating snow on roadways.
