Not sweater weather, but not as hot

It’s a Wednesday of big changes for South Florida. The rain arrives and the clouds will allow residents and visitors to enjoy a less-hot day! Yay!

Deep tropical moisture arrives in South Florida on Wednesday, and it will be, like many, vacationing this week in the Magic City and its surroundings. The clouds moved in quickly overnight and the periods of heavy rains have affected coastal Miami-Dade County since early morning, with several warnings for the coastal marine areas.

Some of these storms are producing and will continue to produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and torrential rains. For now, the heaviest rains and thunderstorms have been confined to the coast of Miami-Dade County. Some lighter rain has taken over the rest of the county and even parts of Broward County late this morning.

These clouds and rains bring good news though. If you have walked outside, you know what I am talking about! Less hot weather is courtesy of these thick clouds. Phew! Finally. In fact, after 22 consecutive days of heat advisories in effect for much of South Florida, Broward County woke up without this advisory in place. Temperatures will still feel extra muggy in parts of Miami-Dade County, and although this county was the only one left with a heat advisory this morning, the National Weather Service decided to cancel it as temperatures will stay below the threshold!

While sunshine might try to peek through this afternoon, the clouds will keep highs at bay, in the low 90s. But heat indices in some parts of South Florida could still be in the triple digits, but many just below advisory levels. Please stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you are working outdoors.

Forecast

Rain and storm chances will continue to be high on Thursday, with some thunderstorms moving throughout the day including in the morning hours. Try to avoid flood-prone areas as some of the most persistent showers and storms could be producing minor flooding.
