Breakfast Brief
Action packed start to week

The work week will be action packed across large parts of the East, Rockies and West as a new work week kicks off. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The WeatherRadar shows two pinwheels of trouble across the U.S. The first one is situated over the Ohio Valley and will spin rain and embedded thunderstorms from Florida up the East Coast into the Northeast. It will produce showers and a few downpours across the Midwest and Great Lakes.

Two low pressure systems making trouble today.

It will keep temperatures cooler, with the TemperatureRadar showing highs in the 50s across the Midwest with 60s and 70s in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The second troublemaker will be over the Southwest. This upper-level low will produce scattered rain and thunderstorms across southern California while more frequent downpours will fall across the Great Basin, Southwest and into the Rockies. Upper-level snow cannot be ruled out across the Rockies.

Later today, heavy rain and thunderstorms will sweep out across western Texas and the high Plains. Localized flooding could be possible.

Sandwiched between these two systems, the central Plains and the South will be sunny and mild with highs in thte 60s and 70s. The West Coast will have similar weather too.

News we're covering today

  • Severe storms target central Texas.
  • Flood threat stretches from Texas to Arkansas.
