Breakfast brief
East stays gray and soggy

Thursday, May 16th

A fresh batch of severe thunderstorms will roll across the Lone Star State Thursday as the East and South finally get a chance to dry out.

Big Front Range Snow

On this day in 1983, Denver was swamped by a major spring snow storm. The nearby mountains received several feet of snow, with the Denver Foothill received 1 to 2 feet. High winds caused blackouts across the greater Denver area.

Today's weather outlook

The WeatherRadar will light up across Texas today as severe storms ramp up throughout the day. These severe storms could produce damaging winds and large hail from Lubbock into Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth areas.

The storms will make their way into the lower Mississippi Valley after dark, rumbling into New Orleans.

The East and South will finally see some sunshine on Thursday as the slow-moving system that has lingered east of the Mississippi since the weekend finally moves offshore. However, it will still bring some cold rain and gusty winds from Long Island northward into southern New England. Use our TemperatureRadar and WindRadar to track the changes.
