Breakfast Brief
Northwest downpours

A bit of spring will be felt across more of the U.S. for February's last Monday, curing some cabin fever. However, there will be a few spots that won't be so lucky. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m., Eastern time.

After a busy Sunday, the Northwest will continue to be hit by fresh batches of rain today. The WeatherRadar shows the rain extending from northern California into the Seattle area. The rain extends into Cascades, with some snow at the highest elevations. The rain could cause snow melt and flooding in the lower elevations.

Rain will also cause trouble across southern and central Florida, where thunderstorms could washouts any afternoon and evening plans in Miami and even Orlando.

Winter remains locked in place across the Northeast and the Upper Midwest. Snow will fall in the lake-effect belts of upstate New York as the Northeast will only see highs in the upper 20s and low 30s. Cold rain showers will streak across the northern Plains with highs in the 40s.

Spring will be in the air across the Plains and South today. Highs will creep into the 50s as far north as North Dakota, with 60s found in St. Louis and throughout Texas, the South and Southeast. The Southwest will be in the 70s and low 80s.
